Very cool! It makes me want to start my own urban farm.

@Jodi-Yeah I got the feeling that CCD was mostly media hype. We need stories like that to get us past the summer when someone doesn't go missing or a celebrity isn't adopting more kids. Funny you should mention banks...the are the bee farm is in has a lot of "currency exchanges" and I think even a greedy bank would be an improvement over these places. Some banks have started to move in and provide a service to the community that hadn't been there in many years.

Thanks for commenting.

@bs-If you need to be a foot away then you probably are due for an upgrade. I can be a couple of inches away and get a decent shot, cropping the pic helps too.MrBrownThumbhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11326733084344581944noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14573299.post-30390019509813825512007-09-22T15:07:00.000-05:002007-09-22T15:07:00.000-05:00my macro mode is in use in my pictures, and i stil...my macro mode is in use in my pictures, and i still need to be about a foot away to focus. definitely need to upgrade because i'm constantly checking out your photos. the perspectives you're getting are wonderful. i'm glad you liked that post, i watched that bee for at least 15 minutes visiting all the flowers and it was really great to see the flowers bending under her tiny impacts. they're so fun.bshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10680975309246437372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14573299.post-22275939265339445962007-09-22T08:29:00.000-05:002007-09-22T08:29:00.000-05:00A very interesting post, as always. Tom (the beekeeper) told me that Colony Collapse disorder hasn't been seen at all in Atlantic Canada, but as your interviewee suggests, bees are subject to all kinds of stressers and diseases. Tom feels the CCD thing is a bit of a hype, but also points out that honeybees are not native to Canada (probably not to USA either?) but were brought here by coloniests.
I'm personally a big fan of honey, as we use it in our coffee and tea on a daily basis. My husband rarely gets sick and is sure it's because of the honey.
I really like the idea of a honey co-operative, as I figure co-ops are the solution to many things, from greedy banks to funeral homes to megastores.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12107236871193698777noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14573299.post-53566061014887610622007-09-22T07:23:00.000-05:002007-09-22T07:23:00.000-05:00How cool is this ? I took the pic in macro mode and the cloudy day helped a little.

Also I think I forgot to answer you in the sneed snatcher post. Yes, I have picked up the odd succulent leaf to grow myself but once you got too many "no name" succulents I stopped picking them up off the floor.

And when I was writing this entry I chose the pic of the business end of this bee because of this post you made.
