The beans have beans but leaves are browning, the squash is huge but notice one leave starting to brown. Same with the cucumber vine, it is large with lots of flowers but starting to brown. Any advise? Are they getting too much water? Should I lift the burlap and work the fertilizer in more? My parents have had great luck with them over the last 2-3 years so I finally decided not to till and purchased 6. Unfortunately, it has been one logistic oops after another. The first shipment I received 6 bottoms, 6 tops but only 2 Nutrient Patches even though the documents stated 6 were shipped. I called and they sent out another shipment, supposedly nutrient patches. This time I received 4 of the Dolomite Soil Sweetners. I called again, they said they would ship by the speediest means. Friday at 3:30 I received notification that the shipping label was printed but unfortunately, no one called Fedex to tell them. to come pick it up 3 days later.
I am still hopeful to get my plants in the ground by Tax Day which is safe day for No-frost in Mid TN. Will update once I have some news.

Oh, and one point on the pins. Try cutting some synthetic Quarter Round the length of the grow box, drilling holes and putting long nails through them. One on each side will hold down the nutrient Patch and also keep the sides from Rolling as they are prone to do once you cut them or they get wet. I have had 3 grow boxes for three years & have left them out in our upstate NY winters. One box we tried to repair with caulking/glue and it hasn't been able to hold water all season. We will be throwing that one out. As far as the new cages they sell...well lets just say I bought 2 and wished I had saved my money. My whole box of tomatoes fell over & if you saw how the cages are hooked together (not very sturdy) you could imagine what happened to our poor plants. The first couple years the covers were made of plastic and I have to admit I liked them better. The burlap covers curl in the box and they don't give you enough plastic pins to secure them. The also do not give you the pins in the replacement kits which means you cannot lose any of them. This year I'm not going to order the replacement kits. I'm going to buy my own fertilizer and make a cover out of some type of weed control fabirc that will lay flat.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14573299.post-31410877648041558482011-12-30T08:46:29.766-06:002011-12-30T08:46:29.766-06:00We tried them both and the Earthbox constantly dri...We tried them both and the Earthbox constantly dripped water all over our new deck. It doesn't hurt that it has a cool print! When I teach beginners I always tell them what they should do, even if, in reality, it's not what I do. Which reminds me something a keynote speaker said once at some conference: "Gardeners have an insatiable thirst for knowledge and finding out new techniques. We read every magazine we can get our hands on, can't wait for the latest book to come out, or find a new gardening show to learn something new. And then we ignore all that advice and do it our own way, anyway!" P.S. I have the exact same watering can and Ikea scissors. :)Monica the Garden Faeriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06369882350990949968noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14573299.post-72715716415855576382010-07-31T11:17:38.515-05:002010-07-31T11:17:38.515-05:00I've had a client with earth boxes.
