The vase only consisted of 2 inches of water, in the water were the roots from the bulbs. How do I now, take the bulbs from the vase of water and into a planter? Please, someone help.. I would very much like to continue to grow them. I live in Florida, and all the comments Ive been getting have been regarding the super hot weather here. How do I save these Mother's Day tulip bulbs with lots of roots?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09726966359056033551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14573299.post-59156198884445479382016-05-09T10:19:49.154-05:002016-05-09T10:19:49.154-05:00I can't really find what I need online. I have...I can't really find what I need online. I have a raised concrete planter that's about two feet by eight feet. We have a tulip festival here in Oregon each year and we got several varieties that bloom at various intervals over an 8-10 week period. Squirrels got some of the bulbs the first year but mostly they're doing great. However, I want to dig them up and divide them so I can get them to be more spread out again and I want to plant some annuals in this area for the summer months. Question is; can I dig them up now and store them or can I add a few inches of potting soil over these and plant my annuals and in the fall when the annuals die out dig up the tulip bulbs, separate and then plant the bulbs again. I think the latter would be the best by leaving them in the ground and digging them up in October, separating and replanting. I've always heard that you need to dig up and divide bulbs every 2-3 years. Is that true? I'm near Portland, Oregon. Thanks in advance.drog55chevhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05248218401723944592noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14573299.post-90400779295522190242016-05-06T10:28:23.211-05:002016-05-06T10:28:23.211-05:00Some of my tulips bloomed, but other plants just h...Some of my tulips bloomed, but other plants just had big green leaves. Do not bring tulip bulbs indoors because that will do nothing for them. Leave them outdoors in the pot or plant the bulbs in the ground. Tulips are not "indoor" plants. Sometimes plant damage happens and the plants and bulbs are fine. If the whole stem came up, that means that the stem was pretty weak and was probably ready to die back on it's own anyway. I was surprised to see that Parrot Tulips don't last. I have had 4 Black Parrot Tulips in my front yard for 20 years. They don't multiply but they come back every year. I took a risk and moved them at the end of their bloom this year. I may never see them again. We will see! I live 50 miles from Holland MI and have never been to the festival there. Meaning, they're meant to be tossed or composted after they are done flowering. They have used all of their energy in flowering off schedule and unless you fertilized and gave them full sun until spring; chances are the bulbs are too weak to return next year. However, nature sometimes doesn't listen to the experts and the bulbs can return the next year if you plant them in the garden. The bulbs were free, so there is nothing to loose if you plant them in your garden in the spring.
