Tips For The Garden Blogger Pt6

If you think the Blogger template has some limitations and wish you could make changes you're in luck. I've spent the past couple of days searching Google for "Blogger hacks" and "Blogger beta hacks" and have come across a mountain of information and cool changes you can do to your Blogger template. Most are really useful and worth looking into but I'm really HTML impared or maybe I'm more scared than anything.

One of the ideas I've been toying with is adding a third column to my blog to make it look more like a newspaper or magazine. I really want another column because I'm running out of space to post links I come across or just share pictures on my blog without making a new post or using the flickr badge that was slowing down the loading of my blog.

Yesterday I did implement one hack to the blog. I added a favicon (short for favorite icon) that you can see by looking at the url bar of your browser. I've been resisting adding a favicon because they're kinda cheesy but I decided it was the easiest thing I could do. If you happen to favorite this blog when you go looking for it you should see my little logo in your favorites folder to make this blog easy to find. And if you have multiple tabs opened favicons make it easy to find a site that you were just on when you have two or more tabs going on at the same time.

It was really easy to do I just followed the instructions from BlogU and it was really painless. BlogU is a blog about Blogger hacks run by a woman here in IL. I'd love to make my blog template look like hers but like I said I'm intimidated by it and I don't have the money to pay someone to do it. But maybe I'll follow her instructions one day and make the changes I want to make. She also has a blog about cooking that I spent a lot of time on after being touched by the note on who the blog is dedicated to. Check out BlogU if you want to add a favicon to your blog or want to see what other cool hacks you can implement on your blog.

  1. I'm glad you found the courage to put up a favicon. One step at a time. If you go to Blogcrowds and join the forum, you can download a 3 column template like yours (but blue). If you want the color of your template, after installing it, go to your dashboard/ template/ fonts and colors and change the background color.

I'm glad you like my other blog. And thanks for the kind words.

  2. You could start a 'test' blog to make changes to it and when you feel comfortable, you could apply it to your blog.

  3. Annie,

Thanks for stopping by. I added one more thing I saw on your blog and that was the translate javascript.

    DS,

You're right I had registered a new blog new so I could try some of these things out. I'm going to play around with it today.

  5. No problem. Hope you have fun. Come back and let me know if you make any cool changes.

I've spent the day trying to change a template and I've gotten stuck. But I've had fun reading all these techie blogs. I end up reading about things I wasn't even looking to do and getting new ideas.

  6. I just recently put up a favicon, too. It's fun, but I think mine needs some more work because it doesn't show up too well.

I usually have 10-30 tabs open on Firefox so it really helps to spot the one I am looking for.
